The personal learning network for educators

I am reviewing the landscape of professional development tools. It seems Facebook is now the lead when it comes to social networking based professional learning. However, Facebook, unlike NING for example is not really searchable, there aren't great archives, it's difficult to screen through topics and find the most relevant and it's not always the best way to get an answer, or a relevant answer.
I am trying to better understand what makes you choose between discussion on NING and discussion on Facebook? And why, if at all, would you spend time on Twitter?
Any other tools you are using?

Technology is not a magic formula/perfect solution, but it is an integral part of life for kids in school today. Social networking site is one of the fastest growing Internet use. It is also one of the social media platforms that encouraged social interaction in a virtual environment. Social media has the ability to serve both of these needs, depending on how it is used. I love your idea of using technology to motivate students. I definitely think that this is an excellent way to motivate students. This year I had a group of students who lacked motivation and I was desperately searching for ways to encourage them to want to learn. The main motivation for a lot of people is to find a community or network with similar interests to them. Of course, social media has become highly monetized, but for the most part, people still go on it to find comfort, support & to discuss issues important to them. Simply it’s a sign of a desire to gain attention.

First of all, I completely subscribe to your opinion in connection with Facebook, my answer to the last part of your question would be an emphatic 'No'-- I view 'Twitter' as a sophisticated form of annoyance.

I was browsing the web to find a website that offers a platform to teachers around the world and was led to this website. My goal is to learn from teachers around the world. However, my membership was approved 46 minutes ago and I am still in the whirl of discovery.

Well, as for me, when you have a lot of friends, when you know a lot of people it makes you more successful in life.

Because when you don`t know some information or you need help you know who can give you some advice.

My friend Jane is a social networker and I really admire her!

I just joined Ning for a course I am taking. I am not exactly sure what is available here, or how to search like you said. However, this seems to be about professional discussions whereas Facebook is one's personal life. I have never understood what the point of Twitter is.

Self-Regulation: Getting Our Students To Care

I think all educators can agree that we want our students to become better self-regulated learners. However, this is a daunting task for teachers. I've spent a great deal of time trying to teach my grade 6 students various self-regulation skills such as planning, goal-setting, self-monitoring, time management, self-control, and reflection, but in past years it hasn't quite "taken" the way I hoped it would. I talk about how important this skills are until I'm blue in the face and I usually get…See More

A Childhood Educator Is Becoming Commonplace In Teacher Training

School boards and individual teachers are seeking out new ways to improve and maintain their own learning process. Teachers with a passion for their career are routinely discovering innovative ways to brush up on skills, and to develop new methods for delivering information. Teachers know that children have a huge capacity for retaining knowledge, and that every child has their own unique way of grasping the information delivered in the classroom.
