In her book, Wiring the Brain to Read: Higher-Order Thinking for Reading (2010, p. 9), Dr. Donna Wilson says, "While some teachers may see their role as the 'sage on the stage,' teaching students to think about their thinking requires that you take on more of
a coaching role.  Create a learning environment in your classroom where
the teacher and students learn together.  Question rather than lecture,
and model effective learning and thinking habits."

Jamie McKenzie's book 'Learning to Question, To Wonder, to Learn' is dedicated to development of a pedagogical approach based on asking rather than telling. Some schools, he says "are too focused on teaching and instruction instead of learning". I have recently facilitated 'Questioning for Thinking" workshops in Singapore and continue to work with the participating teachers in a reflective action learning model as they explore the possibilities of a questioning approach in their classrooms.

I am new in this group, but I am very intrigued by the "Questioning for Thinking" workshops that Penny Bingham mentioned in her post.    I am working with my AP classes (Spanish Language) to develop the skills to question, to raise the right questions, to engage in a process of shared inquiry. I am curious to know if this is related, and I would love to hear more about it.
