Game Based Learning

Game based learning provides students with an opportunity to engage in the learning process.  Benefits of game based learning include collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-based learning, often with the added benefit of intrinsic motivation.

Game Based learning can involve games created with education in mind (Quest Atlantis, Oregon Trail, etc.) and off the shelf titles repurposed for education (Portal 2, minecraft, World of WarCraft, Sim City, etc.).

Thanks for organizing the group.  I'm interested in both game-based learning and also turning an entire 'unit' into a classroom game that is played over a month or two.

I'm currently in the midst of trying to turn a science unit on systems into a classroom zombie apocalypse game.  Students will create characters and then collect different zombies to add to an apocalypse scene as they complete learning tasks.

It is a rather daunting upfront organization challenge but I'm hoping it will benefit in more engagement and some fun!

I tagged my usual tribe in the graphic so they would re-tweet it for me; they’re awesome like that. After that, I went about my day.…See More
