The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

I am lucky enough to have a classroom set of iPads for my 5th graders. I have found some great apps (NumberLine, Ancient Egypt Brittanica, MyScratchWork, and iCardSort come to mind). But, I have been surprised by some of the things I can't find. It is entirely possible that I just haven't found them yet.

So, I thought I'd start an app wishlist of sorts in the hopes that what I or someone else wishes for another person has already found.

Here goes: I would like a good grammar app--not for ELL students but for native speakers. I want it to ask students to identify parts of speech, let them diagram sentences, and explain things like indirect objects and gerunds.

I'm going to be training a few of our fifth grade teachers this year who will be sharing iPads for their classrooms. I haven't browsed through the wiki yet, but this link: http://teachwithyouripad.wikispaces.com/iPad+Apps has a plethora of iPad app info.
Need a "timeline" app that would take input of dates and events and place them in their relative position on a timeline.

Check out Spellathon the number 1 iPhone & iPad educational app over Christmas 2011. Details and download here: http://www.spellathon.net

What’s the Goal of Education?

April 25, 2019 by Tom Whitby @tomwhitbyAs adults we generally learn about things that we need to learn about. Of course we also have an opportunity to learn about things we would like to learn about. We do not have anyone assigning us projects, or books or exams for which to prepare. The exception to that would be the job requirements in a job that we have chosen. Theoretically, we work in a job that…See More
