See it! Say it! Helping to End the Abuse of Our Children!

In 1982, I worked in a Headstart center, I had only been out of college for two years. I worked in the room with the 3 and 4 year olds. One day, one of our little girls had an accident, and she didn't have any clothes in her cubby. We called the house, and the uncle agreed to bring a change of clothes.

When the uncle arrived, he was asked to change her clothes in the bathroom. As he led her to the bathroom, she began screaming, and pulling away from him. I couldn't…

What’s a Connected Educator?

The idea of being connected in the Twentieth Century had a very different meaning than it does today. Back then being connected conjured up visions of pinstriped suits and shoulder holsters. Today, being connected brings up visions of computers, Smartphones, and tablets. A general misconception is that to be a connected educator, one needs to be a computer geek, with a vast knowledge of all things having to do with social media. Of course this is a vision that could be overwhelming to anyone…

For November the Bells Toll

After a long period of time I feel so happy to create time for my blog:)
We are in November now. As we know it is the mid of the term, there are only two months left for the end of term. In that sense, I would like to know how the term is going for the ELT teachers.
In my case, I am too busy with my students. This year I have got four classes of 3rd and 4th graders.
Since they have all different levels of aptitude, I am trying to do my best for them.…

Yawn,Yawn, Go Away! Little Johnny Wants to be Engaged!

I sat with my small group today and listened to my students, and smiled. They had  finished sharing their writing prompt about an imagined device that would make their lives easier. I listened to stories about a teleporter , a robot, and a pen, that can do the unimaginable.  After they shared their stories, and asked each other questions, they began an animated conversation about how they could market their inventions through a partnership. I sat and listened to their imaginations…

PD Paradigm Shift

I read a blog post recently which talked about a gathering of technology product executives and politicians who came together to express their vision for learning using technology in education. The author seemed quite pleased with the ideas that were bandied about. I did not disagree that technology may play a big role in education, but I was struck by the fact that there were no classroom educators in the group. I am always offended when…

Alcohol dependence

Alcohol dependence has become an epidemic in the 21st century. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2.45 % of men and 5.78% of women consume alcohol daily. Every year, alcohol misuse causes the deaths of 2.5 million people. The problem of alcoholism is getting commonsense, and that is scary.
