The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

I have an issue regarding my sources - since I am doing my PhD I have a desktop full of papers and documents, videos and slide-shows and audio lectures to name a few. In the "old" days one used a file system on paper cards with names of references. Now i have a big-old folder on my desktop called references and in it over a 100 folders with different names on them - see I now where the references are, it is finding the relevant one when I need them.

When I find a reference (any media format) I put it a folder and write a short review on a notepad - I rename the reference something that is relevant to the topic. That is fine at the time when I am reading up on specific topic and my memory work fine - a week goes by and I am into some other stuff - then I go back to finding that very interesting and important reference from last week and suddenly the name I gave it does not make sense. It made sense when I organized it a week ago but not now.

Maybe this is not a problem or just a problem for my overflowing mind - maybe it is a question of intellect, "The more you study. The more you know. The more you know. The more you forget. The more you forget. The less you
know. So why study?"

At least I keep forgetting - maybe someone out there has a solution...
