I have returned the annual Design and technology conference, really inspired. It took the format of a key notes speech from  Dame Ellen MacArthur. She really, was as described ‘inspirational’.

She shed light on areas and concepts I now feel as though I was completely blinkered to previously. It really opened my mind!!!!

I know we are all sustainable thinkers but are we aware that it is predicted At the current rate of usage, 24 billion barrels a year, the world will run out of oil by the year 2043. Are we aware of the impact of this?

The concept changes the direction my brain was in and in my return car journey I could not, still can’t stop thinking about the impact that this has.

With regards to food technology this thought takes me in two directions. The idea about being more and more self sufficient is one of the directions- Bring on the school farm! My other thought is the direction that this takes food in surely has to be to the inevitable pill or injection! This could surely mean obesity could be wiped out! Nutritional deficiencies gone!!!!........... Could we live without food... would we gain the sensory pleasure and fulfilment of food... this then made me think about taste sensations and flavours over foods. Which really made me think about, food, chemistry and science!!!!!!! Wow!

Dame Ellen’s  passion and desire to have a bigger impact was infectious. Making the unachievable achievable!

Her parting quote from ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPERY “If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea. “ Brilliance!!!

Another useful internet reference I found at the conference was  http://www.nationalstemcentre.org.uk/elibrary/ resources!

The Skype contact I have made has also sent me these useful American websites .  For the foodies out there my initial reading thinks that they look good
