I think that the gamification of education is a useful tool in educating students. However, when the author said that students who drop out list the #1 reason is being bored. I would like to make clear that sometimes in life you are bored. I LOVE BEING A TEACHER! With that said, some of my job is super boring! Like next week, for example, I get to watch my students take the PARCC test. It is totally boring! Mind-numbing in fact, but it is part of my wonderful job. So, now that I have clarified that side-bar I would like to get back to saying that I think that many students have the spirit of competition so games like Kahoot!, Quizizz, and Quizlet help motivate them to care and make learning engaging for all.

Engagement, leveling up as it were, and the hook-me-in piece of education has in fact never been more important. What's wrong with having fun and enjoying learning? Nothing to me. Yes, the other side of the coin is that we should not be entertaining kids- agreed. Could we not find other avenues to teach in science for example that engage?  I would love to be able to code and build games/ simulations for my students....
